Durban University of Technology Ranking 2023/2024 academic year!
Another global ranking is in the bag for the Durban University of Technology (DUT) after it was recently ranked 2nd in South Africa and 102 in the world by the 2021 Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings.
The Durban University of Technology (DUT) was recently ranked 112th in the world by the 2023 The Times Higher Education (THE) Young University Rankings. The rankings were announced by Mr Phil Baty, the Chief Knowledge Officer at Times Higher Education in London.
This global ranking is further evidence that DUT continues to strive for excellence regionally, nationally, on the African continent and across the globe.
The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2023 include more than 1600 universities, across 99 countries and territories, making them the largest and most diverse university rankings to date.
The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, founded in 2019, is the only global league table that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), publishing an overall ranking, as well as 17 tables showing the universities’ progress towards delivering each of the SDGs.
According to Mr Baty, the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings apply the same methodology as the World University Rankings, to assess research-intensive universities across all of their core missions: teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook. “However, the weightings are recalibrated to reflect the profile of missions of young universities. We use 13 carefully calibrated performance indicators to provide the most comprehensive and balanced comparisons, trusted by students, academics, university leaders, industry and governments. The rankings include institutions that were founded between 1972 and the present,” he said.
He further commented that the performance indicators are grouped into five areas: teaching (the learning environment); research (volume, income and reputation); citations (research influence); international outlook (staff, students and research); and industry income (knowledge transfer).
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research, Innovation and Engagement at DUT, Professor Sibusiso Moyo, was glad to see the University make it to the 112th position in the Times Higher Education Young University Rankings.
“This places DUT in 2nd position amongst South African Universities on this ranking. Our impact and position is always a reflection of the contributions made by the DUT People and all of our quad-helix partners. Even though we moved from 102nd position in 2021 to 112th in 2023, it is still remarkable that we remain in the top 112 Universities in this category,” noted Prof Moyo.
