What is TVET?
TVET is an abbreviation for Technical and Vocational Education and Training.
The focus of this website is on public Technical and Vocational Education and Training that is offered at colleges.
Technical and Vocational Education and Training courses are vocational or occupational by nature meaning that the student receives education and training with a view towards a specific range of jobs, employment or entrepreneurial possibilities. Under certain conditions, some students may qualify for admission to a University of Technology to continue their studies at a higher level in the same field of study as they were studying at the TVET College.
In this website many of the aspects mentioned here and in the TVET Overview will be further explained and contact details provided where appropriate.
There are 50 registered and accredited public TVET Colleges in South Africa which operate on approximately 364 campuses spread across the rural and urban areas of the country.

1. Central Johannesburg TVET College
Central Johannesburg TVET College mission is to lead their student to employment and entrepreneurship opportunities that contribute to economic development through responsive education and training intervention. They offer a variety of courses at their six campuses. (Parktown, Alexander, Elis Park, Crown Mines, Riverlea, Langlaate campuses)
2. Ekurhuleni East TVET College
Ekurhuleni East TVET College (EEC) is located in five towns of Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality (EMM). These are Springs, Kwa-Thema, Daveyton, Benoni and Brakpan. There are however six college sites that are spreading across the five towns. These sites comprise of five campuses offering mainly NCV and Report 191 programmes while the sixth one is a centre of specialisation.
3. Ekurhuleni West TVET College
Ekurhuleni West Technical, Vocational, Education and Training College (EWC) is a public institution regulated by the FET Colleges Act no 16 of 2006, as amended. It was established in terms of the Further Education and Training Act, Act No .98 of 1998, declared as such by the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education (Gauteng Province) in terms of a Provincial Gazette Extraordinary (dated 7 December 2001).
4. Sedibeng TVET College
Sedibeng TVET College’s vision is to be the leading TVET College for providing affordable training and education. Their mission is to have their staff provide qualifications which meet the expectations and needs of commerce, industry and the community within the TVET sector. NSFAS Bursaries are awarded to deserving students who come from low-income households.
5. South West Gauteng TVET College
South West Gauteng College is a public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), formerly, FET college, operating under the auspices of the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) in terms of the Continuing Education and Training Act, Act No.16 of 2006, as amended. The College is accredited by Umalusi and several Sector Education and Training Authorities (Seta’s) to offer education and training, mostly in the FET band (NQF Level 2 to 4).
6. Tshwane North TVET College
Tshwane North Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College (TNC), is situated in the Greater Tshwane Metropolis of Gauteng.
It consists of a Corporate Office situated in the inner city of Pretoria and campuses, namely Mamelodi, Pretoria, Temba, Rosslyn, Soshanguve South and Soshanguve North. The Campuses are within a radius of 50 kilometres from the Central Office. Temba Campus being the furthest and Pretoria Campus a mere 5 km away.
7. Tshwane South TVET College
Tshwane South TVET College (TSC) is a registered public Technical and Vocational Education and Training College in terms of the Continuous Education Training Act (CET Act No.16 of 2006). TSC is a merger of three former Technical Colleges namely Atteridgeville, Centurion and Pretoria West, as Gazetted in 2001(Notice 7311, Gazette No 240 of December 2001). In 2006, TSC gained its fourth Campus (Odi Campus) from the Orbit TVET College as a result of the rezoning of the Provincial borders.
8. Western TVET College
Westcol Technical and Vocational Education and Training College are a public institution under the auspices of the Department of Higher Education and Training. Westcol has 6 campuses and offers a variety of programs and is based in the Westrand in Gauteng. Their Vision is to be your innovative global partner in lifelong learning.
9. Coastal TVET College
This college is a merger of the former Durban Technical College, Swinton Road Technical College and Umlazi Technical College. It includes former Umbumbulu and Appelsbosch Colleges of Education. It is the largest College in KwaZulu-Natal, currently averaging about 15 000 full-time equivalents and about 800 staff members.
This College is well known for catering for adult learners, unemployed and employed by local industry, out of school youth, project linked trainees ranging from learners with a low academic background to those who have had opportunities to enhance their educational level.
10. Elangeni TVET College
Elangeni TVET College is a Technical and Vocational Education and Training institute. Situated in and around Durban, KwaZulu Natal. We provide higher education learning supported by the South African Department of Higher Education and Learning. We also approved by the South African Bureau of Standards.
They offer full-time, part-time and long-distance learning with a range of programmes from eight of our campuses. We provide bursary programs including the National Students Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) and other financial support services.
11. Esayidi TVET College
Campus life at Esayidi TVET College offers numerous opportunities to become a part of an extensive social, recreational and academic community that is safe, nurturing, intellectually stimulating and inclusive for all students.
12. Majuba TVET College
Situated in Newcastle, in the northern part of Kwa-Zulu Natal, Majuba TVET College is focused on making a positive impact on the community, social development and the environment, as well as contributing towards realizing the shared socio-economic objectives of the local provincial and national government.
13. Mnambiti TVET College
Mnambithi TVET College was born in 2002 from the merger of the Ladysmith Technical College, Ezakheni Technical College, Ezakheni Ex-college of Education and Ezakheni Skills Centre. Mnambithi TVET College is situated in Ladysmith and Estcourt in the KwaZulu-Natal midlands. Its catchment areas are Estcourt, Weenen, Bergville, Winterton, Pomeroy, Msinga, Dundee, Van Reneen, Mooi River, Greytown and Ladysmith surroundings
14. Mthashana TVET College
Mthashana TVET College aims to bridge the gap of skills shortages through quality teaching and learning, leading to employment and self-sufficiency. They offer a wide variety of courses at their eight campuses.
15. Thekwini TVET College
Thekwini TVET College offers a variety of courses both full-time and part-time. They have seven campuses both offering distinct courses. Student supports are made available to all student at all campuses. Assistance is provided to students when applying for NSFAS funding
16. Umfolozi TVET College
uMfolozi TVET College is one of 9 public Technical and Vocational Education & Training (TVET) Colleges in the province of KwaZulu-Natal and one of only 50 in the country. The College has 8 main campuses: Chief Albert Luthuli, Eshowe, Esikhawini, Mandeni and Richtek, Sundumbili/Isithebe, Bambanana and Nkandla.
17. Umgungundlovu TVET College
It has five campuses namely Plesislaer Campus, Northdale, Msunduzi, Midland, Edendale Campus. they offer both certificate and diploma programmes
Western Cape Province
18. Boland TVET College
Boland College, as a rural-based college, consists of five campuses, namely Caledon, Paarl, Stellenbosch, Strand and Worcester with its Head Office in Stellenbosch. Before the amalgamation took place, four of these campuses were independent, competing colleges, each with a long and proud tradition of quality education and results and a certain degree of autonomy. The amalgamation process was completed in 2001, and a fifth campus was opened in Caledon in January 2002.
19. False Bay College
False Bay TVET College offers vocational, occupational and skills programmes in a range of fields: Engineering, Business, Hospitality, Information Technology, Safety in Society, Education Studies, 2D Animation, Tourism and Boat Building.
Northlink College was established in 2002, following the merger of four colleges in the northern suburbs of the greater Cape Town Metropole, namely Wingfield Technical College (three campuses: Wingfield, Goodwood and Table Bay), Tygerberg College (Tygerberg and Parow) and Bellville Technical College.
21. South Cape TVET College
South Cape TVET College, also referred to as SCC, has six Campuses across the Garden Route and Klein Karroo District. Campuses are the Beaufort West Campus, Bitou Campus in Plettenberg Bay, George Campus, Hessequa Campus in Riversdale, Mossel Bay Campus and the Oudtshoorn Campus.
22. West Coast TVET College
West Coast College is a Technical Vocational Education and Training College (TVET) where you will gain a meaningful qualification to gain access to the world of work, become an entrepreneur or enter university, depending on subject choices.
Eastern Cape Province
23. Buffalo City TVET College
Buffalo City Public TVET College (BCC), based in East London, is a multi-campus college that has three campuses namely: East London Campus, John Knox Bokwe Campus and St Marks Campus, as well as the King Street Site and an Administration Centre.
24. East Coast Midland TVET College
Eastcape Midlands TVET College (EMC) in South Africa’s Nelson Mandela Bay is continuing to play a critical and meaningful role in skills development and the lives of its students in the Eastern Cape province. EMC serves a highly industrialised urban area, part of the Nelson Mandela Metropole, as well as the rural western part of the province.
25. Ikhala TVET College
Ikhala Public TVET College (Ikhala College) was formed on 1 April 2002 through the merging of some previous Technical Colleges.
Currently, Ikhala College is serving the communities of the Northern Region of the Eastern Cape with campuses at Aliwal North, Ezibeleni Queen Nonesi (Lady Frere), Queenstown, Sterkspruit.
26. Ingwe TVET College
Ingwe TVET College offers a variety of courses to their students. They have five campuses, each only offering certain courses. Bursary applications are available to all students from low-income households. All students are encouraged to apply for these bursaries as well as NSFAS funding. Ingwe TVET College assists with applying for these bursaries.
27. King Hintsa TVET College
The King Hintsa TVET College is a merger of former Centane Technical College, Teko Technical College, H.B. Tsengwa Technical College and Idutywa Satellite formerly known as Idutywa Community College. The King Hintsa TVET College is situated in the South Eastern Region of the Eastern Cape. The Central Administration Office is at N2 Mthatha road, Butterworth next to WSU (Butterworth campus).
28. King Sabat Dalindyebo TVET College
King Sabata Dalindyebo TVET College aims to produce labour market-ready graduates. Their mission is to provide quality teaching and learning. They offer both full-time and part-time programmes. King Sabata Dalindyebo TVET College encourages and assists their students when applying for bursaries especially NSFAS funding.
29. Lovedale TVET College
Lovedale is rich in academic and political heritage. Lovedale has three campuses. The college was formed by the merger of three institutions to form Lovedale TVET College which has its headquarters located in King Williams Town.
30. Port Elizabeth TVET College
Port Elizabeth TVET College is an institution for tomorrow with a rich illustrious past. They focus on developing people today to enable them to face the challenges of tomorrow by equipping them with relevant practical skills to enable them to attain their dreams and aspirations.
Free State Province
31. Flavius Mareka TVET College
Flavius Mareka TVET College has three campuses. Apart from offering full-time and part-time formal programmes at its three campuses, Flavius Mareka TVET College takes education and training to communities.
32. Goldfields TVET College
It was established in 2002 through the merger of the former Tosa Technical College and the Welkom College. It was then named the Goldfields TVET College, after a region of the Free State Province that is renowned for its gold deposits and mining activities.
We operate four campuses viz: Welkom and Tosa campuses. Our Central Office is situated in Welkom, Flamingo Park. The College attracts learners from all the regions and communities in the province
33. Maluti TVET College
Maluti Technical Vocational Education and Training College was established on the 1st of September 2002.Maluti TVET College is a Technical Vocational Education & Training Institution operating under the auspices of the Department of Higher Education and Training. The College is accredited by Umalusi and several Sector Education and Training Authorities (SETAs)
34. Motheo TVET College
Motheo TVET College offers a variety of courses at their six campuses. Student support services are available to all students, including academic support.
35. Capricorn TVET College
Motheo TVET College offers a variety of courses at their six campuses. Student support services are available to all students, including academic support. They also assist their students with bursary applications. All students are encouraged to apply for NSFAS, especially those who come from low-income households.
36. Lephalale TVET College
Lephalale TVET College has two campuses namely, Lephalale Campus and Modimolle Campus. The College is registered with the Limpopo Department of Education.

Mopani South East TVET College is an accredited registered public post-school institution operating under the auspices of the Department of Higher Education and Training in terms of the Continuing Education Act, Act No.16 of 2006, as amended.
The college is situated in Ba-Phalaborwa Municipality under the jurisdiction of Mopani District Municipality in Limpopo Province.
39. Sekhukhune TVET College
Sekhukhune TVET College offers a variety of courses and mainly focuses on Engineering, Business, Information Technology and Utility Studies training. There are three campuses, each offering certain courses. Assistance is provided to students when applying for bursaries such as NSFAS.
40. Vhembe TVET College
Vhembe TVET College is situated in the far North of the Limpopo province. It caters to 18% of the province with its six campuses. A new satellite campus is set to open in 2017.
They are located in Makwarela Campus, Tshisimani Campus, Mashamba Campus, Mavhoi Campus, Thengwe Campus, Shingwedzi Campus and Makhado Satellite Campus.
41. Waterberg TVET College
The Waterberg TVET College is located across two municipalities namely Lepelle-Nkumbi and Mogalakwena through 5 Training Centres. Their campuses are Lebowakgomo Campus, Mokopane Campus and Mahwelereng Campus.
42. Ehlanzeni TVET College
The Ehlanzeni TVET College aims to provide programme-based vocational and occupational education and training to respond to the human resource, economic and development needs of South Africa, with a vision of providing excellence in education and training.
43. Nkangala TVET College
Nkangala Further Education and Training College was formed in 2003 with the merger of Witbank, Middelburg, Mpondozankomo, and CN Mahlangu campuses (formerly Technical Colleges) in Nkangala region.
44. Gert Zibande TVET College
Gert Sibande TVET College was established in 2002 as a result of the merging of the Technical Colleges of Ermelo, Evander and Standerton. It has since expanded and has six campuses in the towns of Balfour; Ermelo; Evander; Glenmore; Perdekop and Standerton. The College currently offers both National Certificate Vocational (NCV) and NATED programmes, with the different campuses offering a different mix of the programmes. Gert Sibande TVET College also has a Skills Academy and a Centre for Entrepreneurship Rapid Incubator.
Northern Cape Region
45. Northern Cape Urban TVET College
Northern Cape Urban TVET College aims to provide relevant and excellent education and training to their students. A variety of courses are offered at their three campuses. Learnerships are awarded to deserving students who show potential and a good work ethic.
46. Northern Cape Rural TVET College
Northern Cape TVET College offers a variety of courses, both full-time and part-time. There are five campuses. They provide student support services such as career guidance, leadership development, sport, job placement and counselling to all students at all campuses.
North West Province
47. Orbit TVET College
Orbit TVET College offers a variety of courses at their three campuses. They provide their students with support services such as academic development, social and cultural services, job placements and counselling at all campuses.
48. Taletso TVET College
Taletso TVET College is the result of a merger between Lehurutshe College of Education, Mafikeng College and Lichtenburg College. three campuses are situated in the Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality of the North West Province and are ±80km from each other, with the Central Office situated in the same yard as Mafikeng Campus.
