MAT ABACUS Business School is an Approved Learning Partner for the Edinburgh Business School MBA programme. Edinburgh Business School is the Graduate School of Business for Heriot-Watt University.

As a busy and ambitious professional, you may want the range of skills and expertise that an MBA can provide, but do not have the time to accommodate the schedule of a less flexible MBA programme. Firm on standards and quality, the Edinburgh Business School MBA programme allows you to tailor your study route to meet your own specific requirements.

The Edinburgh Business School Master of Business Administration programme is specifically designed to provide an intellectually demanding and rigorous programme that enables you to study when and where you wish and to take examinations anywhere in the world.

You work towards your MBA on a course-by-course basis. After completing three courses, you are eligible for a Postgraduate Certificate in Business Administration, and after six courses for a Postgraduate Diploma. The certificate and diploma awards are formal recognition of your progress; they can also be used as exit awards. To obtain a General MBA, you need to complete 7 core courses and 2 electives.

To do a specialization, you need to do seven core courses and four electives. We can now award up to three credit transfers/ exemptions from the MBA for holders of the ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) Professional Qualification, which means that they need to complete only six papers for the General MBA and eight courses for the specialized MBA. Students with the ACCA Professional qualification can also opt for the M.Sc. in Financial Management.

Masters of Science Financial Management (MSc FM) is qualification awarded by Edinburgh Business School, a business school under Heriot Watt University; MAT is an Approved Learning Partner for EBS in Uganda and Rwanda. The Masters programme at EBS is listed as the most popular Distance Learning MBA in the World by the Financial times newspaper 2013.

Please be informed that there are 9 papers you have to complete to be awarded the Msc FM. 5 of them are a must do papers called the core papers and the other 4 are elective papers (optional papers) Core papers include:

  • Finance
  • Accounting
  • Financial Risk Management
  • Credit risk Management
  • Derivatives
  • Plus 4 additional electives: (please refer to page 6 on the MSc SP copy).

Please note that Economics was also added on to the list of elective papers.

Language should be no barrier to a high quality business education. That’s why Edinburgh Business School offers students the opportunity to study in a number of key international languages. Alongside English, these are Arabic, Chinese, Russian and Spanish. MAT Lectures are only in English.

Apparently MSc FM Core course units and electives (optional papers) are not taught, thus meaning the student entirely depends on self-study and on-line Tutor Group for support, which has been proved to be manageable.

In Minor diets we do not teach any paper, the student is entirely on distance learning programme.

Please Note: Optional papers may be taught at MAT depending on the demand from the Students registered for that particular optional paper, otherwise in most cases option papers are mainly done on self-study and students tend to utilize the on-line tutor support on their course web site and other materials provided by EBS. A Student may include these optional papers anywhere in the either diets June or December because they can be sat in such exam diets a part from Negotiation which is also examined in March Minor exam diet.

Each course requires 200 Hours of Study before you sit the Exam, this is as tested and carefully analyzed by EBS.

RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS PROJECT (RAP)

The Research and Analysis Project (RAP) is the final component of the BSc degree and consists of two separate documents; a 7,500-word Research Report (RR) and a 2,000-word Skills and Learning Statement (SLS). Students are also required to give a presentation on

the project to their project mentor.

For RR, students are required to conduct an investigation and write a report which addresses one of the topics listed by OBU.

SLS is an evaluation of students’ experiences of doing the RR by demonstrating that they have developed the key ‘graduate’ skills of self-reflection and communication.

ASSESSMENT

To pass the RAP, students must pass both the Research Report (RR) and the Skills and Learning Statement (SLS). If students do not pass both components separately within the same RAP submission, they will be awarded a Fail grade for the RAP.

Students will be given one of three Pass grades (A, B or C) or a Fail grade (F) for the performance in the RR.

Students will be given either a Pass grade or a Fail grade for the performance in the SLS.

If students achieve one of the three Pass grades for the RR and the Pass grade for the SLS, then a pass in the RAP will be awarded. The grade awarded to students for the performance in the RAP will be of that awarded to them for the RR i.e. A, B or C. Once they have been awarded one of the three Pass grades for the RAP, then they cannot make any further RAP submissions.

If students are awarded either a Fail grade in the RR or a Fail grade in the SLS, then they will be awarded a Fail grade for the RAP. If they are awarded a Fail grade on the first RAP submission, they will be allowed up to two further RAP submissions.
